The mission of the UMN Office of University Economic Development is to strengthen the university’s ties to business and community partners and to help grow and diversify Minnesota’s economy. To achieve its mission, UED collaborates extensively with groups across the university in order to promote access to economic development efforts system-wide and to connect businesses, entrepreneurs and community agencies to the university resources they need.

The UED was established in 2014 as a result of a strategic planning process, initiated by the Office of the Vice President for Research, that identified an increasing need for public-private partnering to address the economic development goals of the state and region. To that end, UED works to leverage the assets, resources and knowledge of the U of M to encourage economic growth, building a vibrant innovation ecosystem that strengthens business and promotes discovery, entrepreneurship and workforce development.
